Systemic Consultancy and Organisational Development
Connecting your vision, your people and everyday practice.
You have a vision for your organisation and the difference you want to make. Bringing that vision to life depends on how people work together: how they communicate, understand their responsibilities, make decisions and respond when things become difficult.
Village Mind supports organisations working with children, young people and families to explore these connections and make purposeful changes. Together, we look at what is working, what is getting in the way and what needs to happen next.

What do you want your organisation to feel like for the people it serves?
This question sits at the heart of our work.
For a children’s home, it might mean creating an environment where young people experience safety, belonging and consistent care. For a school or family-focused service, it might mean stronger relationships, clearer communication or a team that feels confident putting shared values into practice.
We help you explore how closely everyday experiences reflect your intentions, and where there are opportunities to bring them closer together.
What is a systemic approach?
A systemic approach considers people within the relationships and environments around them. It explores how leadership, communication, roles, routines and organisational expectations influence one another.
For example, inconsistent practice may involve more than an individual’s knowledge. Conflicting instructions, unclear responsibilities, limited opportunities to reflect or difficulties raising concerns may also play a part.
Understanding these connections helps us identify where change could be useful, while keeping individual responsibilities and accountability clear.
We listen to different perspectives, explore recurring patterns and help you consider possibilities that may be difficult to see from within the day-to-day demands of the organisation.
How we can support you
Organisational listening
Create opportunities to hear how your organisation is experienced by the people within it.
Through agreed questionnaires and conversations, we explore strengths, concerns and differences in perspective across staff and leadership. Where appropriate, we can also agree ways to include the views of children, young people, families and partner professionals.
Anonymous listening can form part of this work, with clear arrangements for how responses are gathered, reported and handled.
Turning vision into everyday practice
Help your team develop a shared understanding of what your organisation stands for and what this means in their roles.
We explore how your values are reflected in decisions, routines, relationships and responses under pressure. Together, we identify practical ways to make those values more visible and consistent.
Reflective practice and team learning
Provide structured space for teams to think about their work, consider different perspectives and learn from experience.
Sessions can explore recurring challenges, working relationships or the impact of emotionally demanding work. Reflection is connected to practical responsibilities, so that learning informs what people do next.
Leadership, communication and organisational culture
Explore how expectations are communicated, how decisions are understood and how people experience support and accountability.
We help leaders and teams consider what makes it easier—or harder—to ask questions, raise concerns, work collaboratively and take responsibility.
Connecting therapeutic thinking with staff practice
Support organisations to consider how therapeutic ideas and professional advice are understood and applied by their teams.
We help explore the connection between specialist input, organisational arrangements and everyday interactions, working alongside existing professionals and respecting their roles.
What might this work help you address?
You may be asking:
- Why do the same difficulties keep coming back?
- Do leaders and staff understand our vision in the same way?
- Why does practice vary between people, shifts or teams?
- Do staff feel able to speak openly and ask for support?
- How do we turn training and reflection into changes in practice?
- Are our systems helping people do their jobs well?
- How do we preserve what works while our organisation grows or changes?
You do not need a fully defined problem before getting in touch. Our first conversation can help clarify what you want to understand or improve.
How we work together
- 1
Agree the purpose
We begin with your priorities, the experiences you want to create and the questions you want the work to explore. We agree the scope, responsibilities, confidentiality arrangements and what useful progress would look like.
- 2
Listen and understand
We gather agreed perspectives and information, looking for strengths, differences and recurring patterns. We explore findings with you and remain open to explanations that challenge our initial understanding.
- 3
Turn understanding into action
Together, we identify manageable priorities, agree who will take responsibility and establish how changes will be put into practice.
- 4
Review and learn
We agree how progress will be checked. Depending on the project, this may include feedback, observations, relevant records and the experiences of the people your organisation serves. We consider what has changed, what remains difficult and what needs adjusting.
Support may take the form of a focused review, facilitated sessions or an agreed programme over time. Delivery can be online, in person or a combination, depending on the work.
Who we work with
We welcome enquiries from children’s residential homes, schools, alternative provision, early years settings and other services working with children, young people and families.
We welcome complexity, difficult conversations and bold ideas. You do not need all the answers, but a willingness to listen, reflect and act is essential.
We want to work with innovative thinkers, leaders and organisations who are open to fresh ideas, ambitious about what they can achieve and willing to challenge familiar ways of working.
Let’s explore what is possible
Whether you are navigating change, responding to recurring difficulties or looking to build on your strengths, we can begin with a conversation.
Tell us about your organisation, what you hope to achieve and where you would welcome support. We will explore whether Village Mind is the right fit and agree a clear proposal, including scope, delivery and fees.
